Find your septic tank lid by first locating the tank using property records or probing the ground. Once found dig carefully around the tank edges to expose the access lid. Most tanks have one or two concrete or plastic lids at or just below ground level. The lid is typically 12 to 24 inches in diameter. Consider installing risers to bring the lid to ground level for easier future access and maintenance.
