Measure toilet rough-in distance from the finished wall behind the toilet to the center of the floor drain bolts. Standard rough-in is 12 inches but 10 and 14 inch models exist. Do not measure from the baseboard as this adds extra distance. For replacement toilets measure the existing bolt caps to the wall. Getting this measurement wrong means your new toilet won’t fit properly against the wall or may not connect to the drain.
