Toilet tank water is relatively clean coming directly from the same supply as your faucets. However the bowl water contains bacteria and waste making it unsanitary. Even freshly flushed bowl water harbors harmful bacteria including E. coli. Tank water may contain rust or mineral deposits from internal components. Some toilet cleaning tablets add chemicals to the tank water. Never drink from or use toilet water for any purpose. Pets drinking from toilets should be discouraged.
