Vacuum Relief Valve Water Heater

A vacuum relief valve on a water heater prevents negative pressure from collapsing the tank or causing back-siphonage. It opens to allow air into the system when a vacuum occurs such as during rapid draining or when water supply is shut off. Required by code in installations where the heater is above the fixtures it serves. Install at the highest point of the hot water line. These valves protect the tank from implosion damage and contamination.
