Water Heater Pressure Relief Valve

The temperature and pressure relief valve is a critical safety device that releases water if tank pressure or temperature exceeds safe limits. If this valve leaks it may indicate excessive pressure a faulty valve or thermal expansion issues. Never cap or plug a leaking relief valve. Test annually by lifting the lever briefly. Water should flow then stop when released. Replace the valve if it drips continuously. Install the discharge pipe pointing downward ending 6 inches above the floor.
